Biography
Mochtar Apin (1923 – 1994) was a well known Indonesian painter.
He
was co-founder of the Gelanggang Seniman Muda (Arena of Independent
Artists) movement in Jarkarta in 1946 and a member of the Bandung
School. Alongside other painters, intellectuals and poets, he advocated a
universalist ideal for culture, advocating the creation of art concerns
that could communicate to people of all backgrounds. Mochtar was well
travelled and for seven years of his life, from 1951 to 1959, he took
the initiative to journey around Europe looking at art and visiting
museums. With such knowledge, Mochtar was well equipped to debate on the
role of art in Indonesia

AFFANDI'S SKETCH
This Affandi's sketch was given personally by Mr.Affandi to ex- Diplomat and
Indonesia Ambassador for Nairobi Senegal ,Mr Taufik Sudarno,when he
visited Senegal.You can see Mr.Affandi signature at the rear side of the
the frame,it is stated in Dutch "To Taufik" . Hard to find original
paintings from Affandi nowdays, many of them are reproductions or copies
and lost.In fact the originals were found in foreign countries where
Affandi is not very popular,and those paintings have been bought by a
famous collector in Indonesia after so many years of hunting,Mr.Oei Hui
Djin.Some are at the Affandi's Museum.So here is the only Affandi's
sketch we can offer
